Éric Burnand is a Swiss writer. He studied literature and political science in Lausanne. He worked as a journalist for L’Hebdo and Radio Télévision Suisse. He wrote numerous TV documentaries and was a producer for Mise au Point, Temps Présent and C’était mieux avant ?, a historical popularization programme. LE SIÈCLE D’EMMA is his first comic book script.

Fanny Vaucher is a Swiss illustrator.

Summary

Switzerland, 1918. The country is hit by the Spanish flu. Employees and trade unions get together in a strike movement in order to obtain more rights and security. In Grenchen, soldiers shoot at the crowd, killing 3 people. Among the dead is Emma's fiancé: a loss that awakens the socialist consciousness of the protagonist, who will campaign for women's vote. Her story, the story of her family and that of Switzerland intertwine throughout the decades, until 1989: WWII, the Italian immigration of the 1950s, the evolution of the feminist movement, the anti-nuclear movement and much more.
