Comments

HAVANA HEAT, Book 5 in the series, won the 2001 Shamus Award for Best P.I. Hard Cover Novel

Equal parts Magnum P.I. and Jane the Virgin, the LUPE SOLANO series balances dark, gritty cases with breezy humor and a no-nonsense Latina protagonist.

Carolina Garcia-Aguilera is an American writer born in Havana, Cuba. Her novels include, ONE HOT SUMMER, which was adapted into a Lifetime television film in 2009, LUCK OF THE DRAW, and MAGNOLIA. Her LUPE SOLANO series is loosely based on her own experiences as a private detective and as the daughter of a wealthy family who was sent away from Cuba when she was 10.

Summary

Book 1: BLOODY WATERS

The daughter of wealthy Cubans who fled Castro's regime for Miami, Lupe Solano - fun-loving, smart, sexy - is hardly your typical private eye. Her sister Lourdes is a nun who carries a portable phone and skinny-dips; her father, constantly awaiting Castro's demise, has his boat ready to sail for Cuba at a moment's notice; and her secretary is her bodybuilding cousin Leonardo, who has turned the office into a gym and holds yoga classes while Lupe is out investigating cases.

In BLOODY WATERS, Lupe takes on an assignment to search for the biological mother of an illegally adopted baby: her clients' child is dying, and the only way to save the girl's life is through a bone marrow transplant. Although this seems like a straightforward investigation with small chance of a happy outcome, soon enough Lupe is risking her life, involved more deeply than ever before in a case that will, to her own surprise, fulfill her wildest dream.
