Summary

LA NOTTE DELLA COMETA is a detailed and thoroughly researched biography of the early 20th-century poet Dino Campana, who is known for his erratic and flamboyant personality as well as for his mental problems. Sebastiano Vassalli has used the novelist’s license to speculate on many gaps of Campana’s life, allowing readers a more complex view of the poet than a conventional biography might do. The title has been chosen to create a metaphor with Halley’s comet: Dino Campana is considered by Vassalli one of the rare « pure poet » whose passage is matched every seventy-six years as the passage of Halley’s comet.
